I remembered when I was a child how I loved to read the fun activities magazines full of ideas of crafts, gardening, science, etc. It was so exciting to follow the instruction that I saw on those magazines and every week I had so much fun doing different projects that I proudly showed to my friends and family.
Another thing that got me very excited and happy was when I received mail with my name on it. Before I was old enough to start writing and having pen friends, my mother was the one writing to me and very creatively she wrote me letters from my favourite books and cartoon characters. I was so thrilled when I saw the letters and started to hear what it said. Every Christmas I received a letter from Santa. All the magic of Santa's life, his friends elves and all the toys that I dreamed about were so incredibly described by my mother that by then I really believed that I had Santa as a good friend. She included on the letters so much information about me that it always made me think that Santa really cared for me and was watching me from North Pole.
My mother repeated these kinds of letters on every special occasion. I received letters from Easter Bunny telling me all his adventures hiding eggs, another from Tooth Fairy whenever I lost a tooth and, a very important one to me, on my birthday. What a difference that made on my upbringing. I grew up loving to read books, write letters and with a creative imagination.
Combining these two fun experiences during my childhood I though that would be the perfect kind of home based business for me. Bringing to other children the joy that I felt for so many years as a child every time I went to the mail picking up a letter or a magazine full of activities ideas was a big motivation for me to start a this type of business.
Writing letters to Santa Claus has been a Christmas tradition for children for many years. Receiving an answer to those letters brings them joy and happiness. Why not making that your business? You will feel the satisfaction of making a child happy and even earn some money with that. This could be a seasonal activity or you could extend it to the rest of the year offering other holiday personalized letters. One way to increase the number of Christmas letters you could send is to mail stories from one of the Christmas elves every month leading up until the Santa Letter. The child would look forward to finding what was happening at the North Pole every month.
When to send those letters?
Every mail package or letter should be sent at least two weeks in advance before the special event or holiday. Of course, you should also keep in mind where you will send those mail packages. Long distance mail should be sent sooner than inside your state mail. On your Christmas packages your mailing depends on whether or not you're going to use a North Pole or other "Christmas-town" postmark. If you're going through a special post office, late November or no later than the first week of December would be best. If you're going to mail them from your local post office, a December 15th mailing should allow enough time for the letters to get to everyone.
From where should I send the letters?
The first thing you should think about when you start this business is on getting a P.O box. A P.O box is a numbered compartment on the premises of a post office that can be used as a secure address for correspondence. All the mail addressed to your P.O box from your customer's orders will be sent directly to your post office box. I recommend you this because it's a safe and efficient way to receive mail. Don't you ever make the mistake of putting your home address on your flyers and ads. There are several benefits on having a P.O Box. The most important is that it will give you and your family a sense of anonymity. If you are going to do this as a home business, obviously you don't want someone knocking at your door making some orders unless they are neighbours or friends.
